Alternate Dispute Resolution Services

Arbitration:
LRC's former judges can accept appointments as sole arbitrators or as a neutral on a multi-person panel.

Settlement Conferences:
LRC's former judges are able to provide impartial mediation of disputes between parties, including mediation pertaining to specialized industries and practice areas such as personal injury, construction defects, commercial law, domestic disputes, municipal issues, water law and railroads.

Specially Appointed Judges:
LRC has former judges available for appointment as judges pro tem pursuant to C.R.S. 13-3-111. This option allows a party a means of preserving the right to appeal which would not occur with arbitration.

Domestic Settlement Services:
LRC's former judges are available for both pre-decree and post-decree services.

Hearing Officers:
LRC's former judges are available for appointment as neutral hearing officers.

Patricia A. Madsen studied as an undergraduate at Brandeis University and the University Without Walls Program at Loretto Heights College. Judge Madsen earned her doctorate of jurisprudence from the University of Denver in 1976.

Judge Madsen was appointed in 1989 to the Denver County Court, where she served two terms and still sits pro tem. She was also a magistrate in the Denver District Court in the Domestic Relations Division. Judge Madsen's judicial practice now focuses on water transactions and water rights litigation. She also has experience with proceedings before the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board, family law, and state and federal civil litigation.

Madsen has served as a National Institute for Trial Advocacy instructor, written for The Colorado Lawyer and the University of Denver Water Law Review. Judge Madsen is an active member of the Colorado Bar Association, Colorado Women's Bar Association, and Inter-American Bar Association.

Since joining LRC in 2007, Judge Madsen's mediation and arbitration focus has been on water law, domestic cases and regulatory law.
